One nice thing about typography is that its essence doesn't change. Styles come and go, but the fundamentals of spacing, proportion, and rhythm do not. In 50 years, most of these books will be as relevant as they are today. The books below are the best on the subject. Some, like "The Elements of Typographic Style," have been an indispensable resource for decades.
Several of the books below I've already read ("Thinking with Type", for instance), but many now have new editions, or I'm pretty sure I missed some key points during my first reading. For whatever reason, I'm starting fresh and reading each from the beginning.
| Type | Book |
